Headlines for the Week
Headlines of interest from this past week, or basically what my news feeds give me and I actually click on. Yes I am part of the uninformed masses... -

CNN - 100-foot Andes Lake Disappears - apparently the 5 acre, 100-foot deep, glacial lake disappeared between March and the end of May. Weird.

MSNBC - Rampaging Squirrel Injures 3 - Opening sentence - "An aggressive squirrel attacked and injured three people in a German town before a 72-year-old pensioner dispatched the rampaging animal with his crutch."

BBC - Alcohol banned in Aborginie areas - I'm sorry, but no matter how bad the issues are, this isn't racist how?

    re: the last point-
mmm, as an Aussie, it is frustrating, as the gov't is merely addressing the symptoms, not the *cause* of the alcoholism/ child abuse (yet again). my initial reaction to hearing this news was confused despair, for this response from the gov't *may* be paralleling what happened with the Stolen Generation... the results of which are ongoing. and it IS racist as the same restrictions are not being put on non-Aboriginal communities (98% of the rest of Australia). Grr.
But let us hope that a strong partnership develops between Aboriginal leaders and those who are working to improve the situation... and that the deeper hurty issues are addressed, and that real change does take place, and wholeness restored... and much more that I don't have the words for - or the knowledge - but I know is heard and wept about anyway...
