Pantry Challenge Days 7 &8
So it's been a full week already. Stuff is going faster than I thought it would. I sent Mike to the store for milk. With our milk-processing machine named Emma we go through a lot of it. I can't help but think of how the scarcity of milk played such a huge role in The Grapes of Wrath. It was truly the substance of life - the necessary thing that determined if a child (or man) survived - and it was beyond the reach of the starving masses. And we go through a lot of milk. It's so basic and assumed so as to be a stable in this challenge. Just made me think...

So as for what we are eating -

Tuesday

Breakfast

Mike - muffin at work
Julie - coffee
Emma - milk and oatmeal with a very mushed banana

Lunch
Mike - sandwich at work
Julie and Emma - lunch at playgroup (PB&J on fresh baked bread, yummy)

Dinner
Tequila Lime grilled Tuna on rice, beans, and corn. (although without the lime part...)

Wednesday

Breakfast

Mike - cereal
Julie- coffee
Emma - milk and a breakfast bar

Lunch
lunch out while shopping

Dinner
Mike - dinner meeting, Chinese take-out
Emma - leftover pasta, Mandarin oranges
Julie - TJ's frozen quesadillas

how is your pantry and fridge looking? How many more days do you think you have? Has it been difficult to do this?

Hey - its looking slighter cleaner than usual... I think we will make it through part of next week... at that point will be be down to lots of rice, cookies, and alcohol. So while that might be fun for a day or two, at that point I will go to the store. I'll post more pictures when I reach that point.

I like this pantry challenge idea. I feel like we had our own real life pantry challenge last year being in seminary and having little money. We did qualify for WIC which helped with some of the basics. I was thinking of making a cook book about making good nutritious meals on a shoe string budget...maybe there's already a few out there.
